THE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE TOWER CRANE OPERATOR

The construction objects of the Republic of Lithuania and companies provide a wide range of facilities of various types and parameters of tower cranes. The boom cranes of up to 1 ton load capacity with installed arrow mechanisms for change and / or turning as well as the equipment related to them is classified as potentially dangerous equipment, and the work with them can be dangerous. When using tower cranes, due to lack of organizational means and violation of rules of safe crane handling, accidents happen. In most cases, riggers become the victims of such accidents.

The tower cranes are registered at the IPC State Registry Office and a compulsory supervision of technical condition by an authorized
 institution is assigned to this type of crane. The employees, who handle these devices must be trained and certified at the training 
institutions. 

Training upon this training program is available to the persons no younger than 18 years of age, having finished the general education and having a medical certificate, which states about the suitability for this work position.

The purpose of training is to prepare the operator of the tower crane, who would have general knowledge about tower cranes, their types, construction, handling devices, protective devices, employees’ health and safety requirements, would be able to control tower cranes and safely lift loads, carry out the construction mounting works.

The training program consists of the theoretical training and practical training at the base of a company that uses tower cranes. The program duration is 416 hours of training. 160 hours are planned for the theoretical training and 240 hours are devoted to the practical part of training.

To the persons, who have completed the training program and successfully passed the qualification exams, a professional training diploma (code 4102) is issued, which grants the right to work as a tower crane operator.
