Occupational risks
Every employer must evaluate the possible occupational health and safety risk of employees.
The purpose of the occupational risk evaluation – to investigate the current or possible occupational risk at work and to foresee the preventive measures in order to protect them from occupational risk or reduce as much as possible.
Training
Each employer of company must ensure that the employees have been trained to work safely. The need for training depends on the type of company activity and the functions of employees.
The compulsory training that must be accomplished by the employer or the person who represents the employer:

The performance of the OHS functions
The 1st part of the 12th article of the Law of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) of The Republic of Lithuania states that „an employer, aiming to ensure occupational health and safety of employees, will appoint one or more employees and health specialists or establish an OHS department <...>. If there are no such persons or there is a lack of such persons in the company, in order to properly organize the occupational health and safety preventive measures, the employer can conclude an agreement with <...> legal person <...> regarding occupational health and safety department functions or a part of its functions completion. In all cases, regarding the type of company economical activity, the number of employees and the possible occupational risk, the number of the OHS specialists must be enough to organize the OHS preventive measures in the company.“
In order to complete the professional OHS performance functions, we:
- participate in the Government tax office revisions, prepare needed response to the requirements
- consult in the areas of emergencies at work, occupational illness prevention and fire safety issues
- inform about newly passed Laws and legislations and their changes, defining the health and safety of employees, work relations, fire safety

Personal safety measures:
According to the Law of the Republic of Lithuania, specifically the 3rd part of the article 263 of the Labour Code, “There must be collective safety measures set up in every workplace, special systems must be set to register the amount of these materials in the workplace and to warn the employees about danger, the employees must be equipped with personal safety measures.”
Regarding the Law of the Republic of Lithuania, specifically the 2nd page of the 28th article of the Occupational Health and Safety Law, “2. If the collective safety measures do not ensure employees’ protection from the risky factors, personal safety measures must be provided to the employees. Personal safety measures are provided to an employee only after risky factors evaluation and are chosen in order to protect an employee from the impact of a risky factor. Personal safety measures must be adapted to the work, comfortable to use, must not cause any additional hazards to the safety of employees and must comply with the OHS legislation regulations. “
Signs, fire extinguishers, evacuation measures
Signs
These signs must be visibly placed on walls in each company:
The placing of the other signs depend on the undertaken activities, devices used, rooms that are used for a particular activity.
According to the general fire safety rules, there must be fire extinguishers indoors.
Fire extinguishers must be:
- kept in easily accessible places and in visible locations, safe from direct sunlight impact, not closer than 1 m to heating devices
- hanged not higher than 1,5 m from the floor up to the fire extinguisher bottom and in such a way that open room doors would not prevent from reaching it
- mounted inside the fire cabinets or near them, inside fire places or on the floor, kept in special cupboards, boxes or stands
- kept in such a way that the writing would be visible
Evacuation plans
Based on the 266th article of the Labour Code of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania and the 22nd article of the OHS Law of the Republic of Lithuania, each company and all its departments must have evacuation plans of the employees ready. The employees must be introduced to the evacuation plans at the beginning of employment contract at the company. The evacuation plans of the employees must be placed in very visible places in the company and its departments. Persons, authorized by the employer, the OHS employees of the company, the representatives of the OHS must be well aware of the measures that are mandatory in case of emergency.
